Pros and Cons:

Distiller provides many options that can be tuned in the conversion process, amongst them are setting if fonts are to be embedded, if the output is ASCII or binary, choosable default resolution, if and how to compress color, greyscale and monochrome bitmap images (available compression modes are JPEG, ZIP and CCITT (FAX) in various qualities), as well as instructions on whether colors in the generated PDF file are device independend (and thus more accurate) or device dependent (which are faster to display).

For use in batch mode, a list of directories can be given to watch, and if a file is copied into one of these directories, that file will be converted into PDF. It is also possible to use different conversion options for different directories.
