The document format has been extended between releases, but backward compatibility has been addressed properly, making it possible for documents created with the old version (V4) to be processed with the new version (V5) without any loss of data. Printing output is done in PostScript, if requested it can also generate PDF-marks for further conversion into PDF, so that cross references, table of contents and index are hyperlinked properly.
