[20070817] c-jump: Computer Programming Board Game
Here's a special one for all the NetBSD moms and dads out there that scrolled by on #NetBSD: be sure to train your kids early in C, so they can become great hackers later on:

[20060309] robots(6) V3
After another attack of extreme boredom (don't ask, it's not that I'm not busy!), I've added NetBSD robots' autoplay mode to robots2: The 'autoplay' mode I added in V2 was basically doing only random steps while trying not to run into robots. The new (NetBSD) autoplay mode is smarter and tries to hide behind scrap heaps.

I've added a switch to select the mode, see -a in the manpage (which reminded me that this code is really 22 (twenty-two!) years old. Yumm!

With the new autoplay mode, I saw it get to level 9, yet it teleports ways too much, which is VERY bad in higher levels, as chances are just too good that you jump into a robot. Maybe someone wants to write an even better algorithm? :)

Have a look at the robots2V3 source.

[20060222] robots(6) V2.2
I have added an autoplay mode to robots2 (-A), added a switch to adjust the delay (-d), and excluded games made with autoplay or a non-default starting level (setable via -l) from scoring, to prevent cheating attempts. (sources)

If someone wants to do an audit of the ROBOTOPTS environment variable handling (so noone can exploit the setgid-ness of the game), please send me patches. Dito if someone feels like rewriting the manpage in mandoc format.

[20060221] robots(6) V2
Last week, someone pointed me at robots2, which was posted as a successor to the BSD robots(6) someonethen in the 80ies (yes, 20 years ago :). I found that version nicer to play (even despite the less fancy "GUI" and an autoplay-mode), and got it into shape for NetBSD. Those that want to try it can find a tarball, it's not integrated into the build process, but a 'make ; make install' in src/games/robots2 shouldn't be too hard.

If someone wants to see this included into NetBSD, more work is needed, e.g. integrating the autoplay mode that NetBSD's robots(6) has and that's considered important, and some otions to turn off the 'new' options are probably needed so people don't feel overwhelmed by the revolutionary new gameplay[1]. *cough* Feel free to mail me patches. :)

[1] The same line of conservative thinking gave tetris a '-p' option to show a preview of the next piece, but this was never enabled by default to not confuse old farts^W^Wconservative players.
