[20140421] onetbsd.org is gone
onetbsd.org, the NetBSD related news aggregation site that bundles many blogs and website feeds, is gone. Due to some hickups at the provider the domain registration was not extended, and the domain was taken by a domain swatter.

Interested parties can still access the site as netbsd.fi.

[20130813] onetbsd.org is fully back
www.onetbsd.org was started as an experiment to bring alternative, community-provided NetBSD content. Technology-wise it does this through RSS feed aggregation ran by Kimmo Suominen on his machines, the domain is registered and DNS provided by David Brownlee, and contents come from a variety of NetBSD-related blogs' RSS feeds, e.g. mine.

A couple of weeks ago, the DNS service was moved to a different DNS provider, which led to some problems: The IP adresses for the authoritative DNS servers of the onetbsd.org zone were only IPv6 addresses, no IPv4 addresses. Those (IPv6 enabled) DNS servers did provide proper IPv4 (A) and IPv6 (AAAA) address records, but only to the clients speaking v6 in the first place. This led to funny effects that www.onetbsd.org worked when on IPv6-enabled networks (which also had v4 enabled), but not on IPv4-only networks. This was further aggravated by the holiday season with not everyone reachable, a longer-than-neccessary communication chain and no direct access to all systems directly.

In the end things are changed back to working now for both IPv4-only and IPv6-enabled networks again, so be sure to keep watching www.onetbsd.org.

(And for those wondering where the domain name comes from: it's from the kernel that doesn't lie :)

[20070716] www.onetbsd.org is back
www.onetbsd.org was offline the past few days due to moving of ISPs and DNS entries not caught up properly. Things should be back up now -- sorry for the interrupt! :)

[20060129] NetBSD's community site growing
As reported before, there's sometimes need in the NetBSD community to document things related to NetBSD. In order to support this, "onetbsd.org" has been brought up as a community site where NetBSD users can easily contribute. Services available include:
  • a RSS aggregator - if you have a blog that's related to NetBSD and you want it included, let me or Kimmo Suominen (kim at NetBSD.org) know!

  • If you want to start blogging but don't want too bother with setting up your own blog, the onetbsd (#NetBSD) blog is there for you.

  • If you have something worth documenting for the world and you don't have a website whose URL you can post in any blog (or using an oldschool mailing list :-), there's also the NetBSD Community Wiki available for doing so.
If you think some documentation available on the official NetBSD site needs work, talk to www@NetBSD.org and send suggestions or (preferred :), patches against htdocs.

[20051101] Time for retirement?
Seems some guys of the IRCnet #NetBSD channel started their own NetBSD blog - check it out! (If this works out well, I may consider moving my blogging activity there, too :-)
