[20070715] Catchup: bootprops, pkgsrc logo and security, Chaos Singularity, ... (Updated)
OK, so I was lazy (busy :) again the past few weeks. Here's another big catch-up of the miracles that happened in NetBSD and pkgsrc land:

Enjoy!

Update: Thomas Bieg has made a webpage that documents the progress of his logo suggestion.

[20060425] NetBSD EPS logo available
FYI,
an EPS version of the official NetBSD logo is now finally available at

Users who want to derive pixel formats in formats and resolutions that are not already provided by The NetBSD Foundation can do so by using the Makefile.tnflogo that we provide, please see the README.tnflogo file for more information on use of this file.

All information related to the official NetBSD logos can be found on the logos page at http://www.NetBSD.org/gallery/logos.html.

Enjoy!

P.S.: How can I disable this VERY annoying habit of Firefox turning all hostnames in URLs into lowercase, e.g. turning www.NetBSD.org into www.netbsd.org? Firefox kills TNF's branding. :)

[20051125] Powered by NetBSD
I've been pushing papers between people the past few days, and I'm happy now that all the design, artwork, copyright assignment and webpage updates are over for the new Powered by NetBSD logo.

In the final steps of fiddling with our website, I learned again that a mixture of CSS, XML, HTML and some secret, magic tools is not really managable if problems arise. Remember: KISS!

[20051101] New FreeBSD logo (Update #1)
the FreeBSD folks now have a new logo, after sorting them out for quite some time (where from do I know this? :-). See the official results page

Update #1: I can't help but think of Looshkin the evil psychotic cat in Jamie Smart's "Bear" comic when seeing that new logo, sorry.

[20051010] Wanted: "Powered by NetBSD" logo
After going over logo uselines with another project recently, I stumbled across the NetBSD Logo Usage Guideline tonight. It seems there is a "Powered by NetBSD" Logo mentioned, but ... noone has made one yet! Any takers? Send them to www@, and if you're lucky it may get chosen! Feel free to bounce copies to netbsd-advocacy@ as well, for public entertainment & discussion.

[20050616] Banners: support NetBSD
Following the recent pledge for money, Mike M. Volokhov made some banners to call for people to support NetBSD, for placing them on their own webpages, and refer to the NetBSD page for donations. Nice examples of Mike's work are here and here.

[20050520] Bouncing ideas for a pkgsrc logo
After I've thought a bit about a logo for pkgsrc, with some emphasis of making it resemble some of the properties of the new NetBSD logo, there was quite some discussion on tech-pkg@, with a number of interesting suggestions. I already have a personal favourite.

Seems NetBSD started a new trend - check out the new FreeBSD Logo Contest! :-)

[20041101] The New Logo - Finally!
There, it's finally out! Of course everyone's bitching now how they don't like the new logo and stuff, but that's what we have now. I'm not perfectly happy with it myself, but it's ok, and as long as we still have a cute mascot, things are not too bad.

[20041019] The logo saga comes to an end... RSN
We have the touched-up artwork in our hands. As soon as everyone has voiced their happiness, we'll update the website and shove out the announcement. Watch www.NetBSD.org!
